FAQ

How long does it take to get my EIN?

We aim to fax your application within 1 business day after your information, signatures, any required IRS authorization, final confirmation and payment are complete. We estimate IRS processing will take about 10 business days after receipt. Processing and postal delivery can vary; these are not guaranteed completion dates.

Are there any hidden fees?

The one-time service fee is $49. The IRS does not charge an EIN application fee. Our fee covers SS-4 preparation, human review, fax submission, a submission record and support for this application.

Is GetEIN part of the IRS?

No. GetEIN is an independent service provider. We help you complete, check, and submit your forms. We are not affiliated with the IRS or any government agency.

What do I need to get started?

Have your company’s legal name and formation details, addresses, responsible-party information, business activity and signer’s contact details ready. A formation document can help fill in company details, but you can also enter them manually.

What is an EIN used for?

An EIN is your company's U.S. tax ID number. It is used on business tax forms and may be needed when applying for a U.S. business account or setting up business payments. Companies hiring employees in the U.S. generally need an EIN to report wages and handle employment taxes. Account and payment providers may also require company documents and identification; having an EIN alone does not guarantee approval. The tax returns your company needs to file depend on its circumstances.

Can GetEIN help me open a U.S. business bank account?

No. We help you apply for an EIN. We don't open bank accounts on your behalf. If you already have an EIN, check the requirements of your chosen bank or business account provider before applying directly. The provider reviews your application and decides whether to approve it. Having an EIN does not guarantee approval.
